SOLD (in two days….): an exceptionally fine Boxford long-bed AUD Mk.2 all imperial lathe with screwcutting gearbox and power cross feed. One of the very last made, it is mounted on the final type of cabinet stand with a full-length splash-back, tool tray and headstock-mounted push-button electrical controls. The lathe was supplied direct from Boxford to the first owner, a model engineer, as a single phase machine. Due to ill health it remained little used until I bought it ten years ago and since then it has been seldom used and kept in dry storage. The original 1-phase motor has been replaced by a Jaguar Cub inverter and 3-phase motor, supplied and programmed by Transwave. The motor has infinitely variable speed drive and the machine runs very smoothly. Very well equipped with: built-in coolant, Bison 3-jaw, chuck, T-slotted cross slide, a genuine Boxford T-slotted boring table, the correct Burnerd half-depth boy 6-inch 4-jaw, a full set of imperial collets with drawbar, spindle-nose adaptor and nosepiece protector, an original Boxford "Rapid" quick-change toolpost (Dixon holders fit perfectly), fixed steady, hand T-rest with the correct mounting, faceplate, catchplate, carriage stop, thread-dial indicator, inch-to-metric transposing changewheel set, headstock spindle reducing sleeve, drill chucks, Morse centres, an adaptor to mount the Boxford chucks to a rotary table, an unused Boxford spindle thread tap, a spare unused cross feedscrew and nut, drive dogs, a " Gibraltar" type toolpost mounting, halogen light unit - it even has  cabinet key and Boxford key ring. SOLD: Dore Westbury vertical milling machine fitted with a 3-axis DRO (with two live). Designed to offer the maximum versatility for the model engineer, and to accommodate both large and small jobs, this Dore Westbury is in excellent original condition and full working order. Carried on the end of a horizontal ram that can be slide in and out and rotated, the No. 2 Morse taper spindle has a standard Myford nose thread. The quill is moved by both a quick-action drilling lever and, through worm-and-wheel gearing, a fine-feed handwheel with micrometer dial. Equipped with multiple T-slots, the table is driven by feed screws with very large micrometer dials. The head has the slow-speed epicyclic gearbox fitted and a Modeloy collet chuck with three imperial collets. SOLD: Tom Senior Major ELT Universal vertical and horizontal milling machine. In superb, little-used condition this top-of-the-range Tom Senior is the very rare "Universal" with a swing table. The ELT incorporated a number of improvements and refinements including a strong dovetail overarm in place of the round type, an extended table with greater travels, a larger and more rigid knee and chain instead of belt-driven table power feeds, a No. 40 INT horizontal spindle end fitting and twelve speeds 50 to 1660 r.p.m. The ELT also has internally-mounted, speed-reduction gearing that allows much deeper cuts when used in the horizontal mode. Complete with all the horizontal equipment - overarm, drop bracket and cutter-holding arbor, a Tom Senior Vertical head, Clarkson Autolock chuck and collets, cutter guards, light unit, a good swivel-base machine vice, wooden boards to guard the table and some cutters. Spindle runs in super precision Gamet bearings. SOLD: Meyer & Burger Universal Machine Tool UW1 Model K
This amazing piece of Swiss Machinery can be used as a backgeared screwcutting centre lathe, facing lathe, horizontal borer, drill, horizontal miller, vertical miller (and, with extra accessories, a surface grinder and slotter). Mounted on a cabinet stand and complete with a full set of changewheels for screwcutting, the horizontal milling overarm support, milling-cutter arbour, right-angle milling table, drill spindle and a user's instruction manual. Machine number 2085. Accessories include: Rhom 110mm 3-jaw chuck, 200mm faceplate, 4-jaw independent chuck, Abwood milling vice and Tripan quick change toolpost. The machine is in very good condition, the top slide and cross slide operate very smoothly. It has been unused for around twenty years so would benefit from a thorough clean and lubrication - but is complete and in full working order. The 2-speed reversing motor drives through a 4-step pulley that, together with the backgear, gives 16 spindle speeds. SOLD (within 24 hours)  an American Sloan & Chace No. 51/2 high-precision bench lathe. This is an unusual example with a particularly robust compound slide rest (a forming slide) with lever-action feed and the very rare "Revolving Tailstock". This has one position drilled, but with room to drill four, or more - so able to act as a miniature capstan unit. Included is a set of collets, the collet drawbar, tailstock chuck and a single phase motor. SOLD: Downham-Elliott Mini Jig Borer/Precision Milling Machine. This superbly-built and super-accurate single-phase machine is ideal for small model, instrument and clock-making work. In excellent working order with no perceptible play in the smoothly-operating slides and quill. The powered down and up feed to the quill is working correctly and, in addition to the standard-fit,  beautifully engraved rulers, it is also equipped with fully-working imperial/metric digital readouts on all axes. The two ranges of spindle speed, driven by a simple and reliable belt system, are low from 100 to 1000 rpm and high from 1200 to 4000 rpm. The jig borer comes complete with a set of 14 Imperial Brown & Sharpe 00 collets (missing 3/32 but with some duplicates) and the all-important No.1 Morse taper adapter; the pair of spanners for the collet housing; a keyless drill chuck on No 1 Morse taper shank; an ER16 collet chuck and collets (never used). SOLD:  Raglan vertical milling machine mounted on the correct maker's stand with chip tray, coolant and a LowVo light unit; the floor space taken by the stand being just 24" x 18". Table 21" x 5.5" with travels of longitudinally 12", in traverse 4" and vertically 8.5". The spindle runs in Timken taper roller bearings and has a No.2 Morse taper socket in its nose. This example is in its maker's original finish and in full working order with smooth slide actions, a clean, unmarked table and with the coolant system built into the stand and controlled by the original switch on the right hand side of the stand - together with a flow-control valve of my own devising. Included with the miller is a Clarkson Autolock chuck with four collets, the Clarkson spanner and a special C-spanner that I made to hold the chuck more securely when changing collets. Electrics include an emergency foot-stop switch in addition to the normal controls on the right hand side of the column. SOLD: Tom Senior M1 milling machine Serial 2192 fitted with the highly-desirable, self-contained, motorised S-Type swivelling vertical head with No.2 Morse spindle and fine and rapid-action quill feeds. This M1 is a well-specified example complete with a 2-axis DRO, digital calipers and the larger 31" x 6.5" table with the late-type, oil-bath-lubricated  power-feed drive. Included is a large-capacity, high-quality, tilting and swivelling Abwood machine vice, a key-type drill chuck and a selection of draw bars. The miller comes with two variable-speed, 1-phase to 3-phase inverters and speed controllers that drive, independently, the spindle and the table motors thus allowing any combination of cutter speed and feed rate to be arranged. SOLD: Warco Model GH Universal geared-head, single-phase, vertical miller mounted on the maker's stand. Fitted with power feed to the table, power elevation to the tilting head by a stepper-motor drive and a DRO system. Table 730 x 210 mm with a longitudinal travel of 500 mm and in traverse of 200 mm. Maximum clearance between table and spindle nose 470 mm and a spindle stroke of 130 mm. The head has the Bridgeport-type R8 collet fitting (allowing access to a variety of effective and inexpensive fittings) and included with the miller is a set of 19 collets and a collet chuck, a drill chuck, an arbor to take horizontal-type cutters, holders to take face-dog cutters and an R8 to Morse taper adapter. . The head bearings in the headstock and quill have all just been changed to top-quality ones by NSK. I have owned the miller since new and only used it for occasional, lighter work. I would prefer pickup and can assist with loading - but it could be attached to a pallet and sent by courier at the purchasers costs. SOLD: Boley F1 High-precision watchmaker's lathe complete with a vast range of accessories - some rarely found on an F1 - the second tailstock (two are included), wire collets, stepped collets, cone collets, wax collets (shellac chucks), pump-centre faceplate, high-precision ring-scroll 3-jaw chuck,  independent friction drive, high-contrast articulated backing arm, box chuck, flip-up T-rest, drilling collets, etc. all in the maker's fitted box. The motor is the best of the type fitted, a high-momentum "inside-out" Pabst 3-phase type. Although the paintwork is now a little shabby, it is the maker's original finish and the lathe and all its accessories are in first-class mechanical order. The only fault with the lathe is that the little drilling collets (the ones with the hex heads) do not have a suitable draw-tube. The lathe comes complete with the standard topslide; a tailstock based on a Myford Super 7 that, for versatility, takes Morse Taper 2 accessories - and an original UW1 taistock. The machine is complete on the maker's cabinet stand with storage shelves for accessories.
The original motor has been replaced with a Variable-speed Newton Tesla CL750 package that works very well - the necessity of moving the belt from pulley to pulley (one has a couple of chips) is eliminated. The machine has been in recent use and works perfectly with no issues.
The only reason for selling is that I have managed to acquire a Hardinge HLV-H and I need the space.

SOLD: Juvenia Precision Bench lathe 4" x 20" One of the more exclusive, very high quality Swiss-made precision plain turning lathes, this example is fitted with changewheel-driven "Chase screwcutting". I bought this as a 'project' but, as I already have too many, its never likely to be finished.
The bed has two inverted 'V's' and vertical flat face with, unusually, full-length 'T' slots at both the front and rear to mount accessories. The headstock has a 4-step pulley to take a wider-than-usual flat belt. The rear face of the large pulley having two rows of 'division' holes which are engaged by an adjustable pin. The spindle nose is threaded for a chuck and bored to accept collets. A chuch backplate is supplied, but no collets. The left-hand end of the spindle is fitted with a gear to drive a thread chasing attachment. The cross slide is of the "toolmaker" type with screw-feeds, metric micrometer dials, a swivelling top slide and an "American" adjustable toolpost.The leading edge corner has the usual marks from the chuck being run into it...T he tailstock has a metric ruler-graduated barrel and is clamped to the bed by a lever operating an eccentric 'T' bolt.The thread-chasing attachment (details of this high-precision system here) bears a remarkable similarity to that found on American Cataract lathes and is mounted on the rear vertical face of the bed. As with the Cataract device, the buttress-thread 'feedscrew' has its own thread hob built-in so new thread followers can be cut when needed. SOLD: Rivett 2C watchmaker's lathe mounted on its original and superb roll-top workbench by the J.H.Rosberg Mfg. Co. of Chicago and complete with the maker's countershaft unit. Fully restored and in superb condition, this high-class lathe is equipped with an extraordinary range of accessories including|: 80 original Rivett "wire" collets, three different length drawbars, Burnerd precision ring-scroll 3-jaw chuck with reversible face jaws, miniature 4-jaw Independent watchmakers chuck, Rivett Quill dividing plate and all 12 attachments (22,26,34,48,50,54,56,60,64,72,80 and 84 divisions ) and 4 homemade plates (46,51,68 and 78 divisions), Rivett vertical milling attachment ("revolving" tailstock), Rivett compound slide (the more expensive compound type, not the cheaper Rivett "special"), Rivett screw-feed tailstock, one-off Rivett sliding dovetail wheel-cutting attachment, five shrink-fit collets, numbers 1-5 Rivett step collets. According to the leading Rivett expert, this is the most complete set of Rivett watchmakers' equipment ever discovered and includes a special, one-off, factory-made "swivelling" dividing  attachment. Although unused for many decades, the lathe had survived in fine mechanical order and with everything correctly housed in the stand. One must conclude that the lathe, its accessories and stand were imported as a complete and very expensive package circa 1905 to 1910 and installed in either a watch-making factory, a high-end jewellers in London or Birmingham - or possible a Government research centre. Six batches of the Model C were made, in lots of one-hundred, the lathe shown having a serial number that places it amongst the last made in batch No. 5 at some point between 1905 and 1907.

SOLD: Atlas Mk.2 6-inch lathe 3" x 16" backgeared and screwcutting. In poor cosmetic condition but appears mechanically sound. Complete with a full set of screwcutting changewheels, 3-jaw chuck, thread-dial indicator and a copy of the maker's Operation and Spare Parts Manual. SOLD: Myford-Drummond M-Type lathe 3.5" x 16" gap-bed backgeared and screwcutting and fitted automatic disengage to the carriage feed. Serial number J2044 denotes manufacture at Myford Beeston works in 1945. In very good condition throughout - previously little used in an automotive workshop--and ready to use again immediately. Equipped with a robust toolpost, a selection of  screwcutting changewheels 20T +20T+30T +30T+35T+38T +40T +60T +65T +73T and a blank spacer gear, 4-inch 3-jaw Burned chuck, catchplate, Morse centres and a half-centre. The drive is from a single-phase motor through a heavily-built countershaft with Pollard self aligning bearings and adjustment for belt tension. SOLD: an interesting antique American Shepard Lathe 6" x 25" backgeared and screwcutting - and equipped with what might be described as an early form of Norton Screwcutting gearbox. Probably of the "New Shepard" type introduced in the early 1920s and sold in the UK as the "Sterling", the lathe is fitted with a robust, built-on countershaft unit, a powerful 1-phase motor and in full working order complete with all the odds and ends necessary to put it into immediate use. SOLD: 1902 Drummond 3.5" x 15|" lathe. The very first of its type identifiable by the very slight curve along the lower edge of its bed beneath the headstock; a "braced" headstock with pinch bolts passing below the bearings and a single swivelling tool slide mounted on the T-slotted boring table. Mounted on the original maker's cast-iron stand with flywheel treadle drive, this having both rim edge and smaller, central grooves for both low and high-speed drives. Complete with all the screwcutting changewheels, the stud to generate left-hand threads and a 3-jaw chuck. Stored away in 1940, it has remained unused since. Not abused, it's absolutely original and needs just a simple cosmetic restoration - it will make a most interesting restoration project. SOLD: IME Model 300 watchmaker's lathe. This late-model, English-made lathe is in superb, barely-used condition. Centre height 75 mm, the bed is in tool-steel bed and the spindle capable of running at up to 14,000 r.p.m.  - though as standard the lathe runs at a maximum of 4000 r.p.m. driven by a infinitely variable-speed, 1-phase Parvalux motor through a high and low-speed toothed pulley drive system. The lathes is mounted on the maker's cast base and complete with a compound slide rest, a 4-inch Burnerd Grip-Tru adjustable-jaw high-precision 3-jaw chuck, lever-action tailstock with built-in collet closer and guide ruler, quick-set toolpost and tool holders, 4-way toolpost, rear toolpost, 3C collets for the headstock spindle, collet-mounted faceplate, fixed steady and a flip-up T-rest,  tailstock chuck. SOLD: Myford VMA Vertical Milling Head and T-slotted boring table - removed from a Myford 254.
As I have a vertical milling machine, the VMA head from my new 254 is surplus to requirements. This head was also used on the Myford Super 7 and ML7 and could be retro-fitted to one of those. All-geared and oil-bath lubricated, the No. 2 Morse head is fitted with a standard Myford spindle-nose thread, tilts 90° in each direction from upright, turns through 180° on its vertical axis and moves up and down through 314 mm. The quill has a travel of 40 mm by either a quick-action drilling lever or fine feed by a handwheel. Six spindle speeds of  130, 200, 370, 700, 1100 and 2000 r.p.m. Little used and in perfect working order, 1-phase motor with a safety, no-volt release push-button starter. £950 or close offer. SOLD - Myford Super 7B lathe 3.5" x 19" gap-bed, backgeared, screwcutting and mounted on the maker's industrial cabinet stand with deep chip tray and raiser blocks. Fitted with a screwcutting gearbox, the lathe in lovely, lightly used condition, was built in approximately 1963 (Serial number SK62015), has metric graduations and is fitted with single-phase electrics. SOLD: Harrison M250 lathe with a Rishton Powered Vertical Milling Head with both in outstanding, little-used condition. A single-phase, all-metric machine purchased new from the factory by the only user and employed solely in his model engineering hobby. 145 mm (5.7")  centre height by 750 mm (30") between centres with all-geared headstock, full screwcutting and feeds gearbox, power cross feed, hardened bed and brand new, recently-fitted DRO system. SOLD: Tom Senior M1 Vertical and Horizontal Milling Machine in excellent condition. Downsizing so unfortunately this most useful miller must be sold. This versatile miller  can mill horizontally and vertically with all attachments included. The 31" x 61/2" power-feed table has three rates of feed. The main drive has 12  geared speeds including a slow-speed backgear system gear for very high-torque cuts. The 3-phase motor is inverter driven with power from a normal single-phase supply to give variable speed control - the speed range is thus enormous and changing speeds by moving the belt position not really necessary. A high-class Swedish machine with power feed to the 22" x 10" table that has 6.5 inches of cross travel and longitudinally of 15.5 inches with travel measurements by an Ortec 3-axis DRO. The U2508 is the heavier, more robust Arboga miller introduced during the 1970s. The vertical head swivels and holds a No.3 Morse taper spindle in a quill with a travel of 5.5". Spindle feed is controlled by both a fine-feed handwheel and a quick-action lever for drilling. Maximum nose to table distance 20" and eight speeds from 100 to 2900 r.p.m. This Arboga has the all-important threaded nose-retainer and associated tool-retaining washer - as well as a Clarkson Autolock chuck, a Jacobs drill chuck, a range of T-nuts, a pair of really useful stepped clamps, the maker's Operation and Parts Manuals and custom-made splash guards. SOLD: a neat, bench-mounted AMA-16VA vertical milling machine. Variable-speed, 1-phase, 500 watt motor with digital r.p.m readout. No. 2 Morse taper spindle with a 50 mm travel and a digital read-out of its position. Drilling capacity 16 mm, end-mill capacity 16 mm and capable of running a face mill with a 50 mm diameter. Head tilts 90 degree each side vertical and has speeds from 50 to 2250 r.p.m. Table 400 x 120 mm with three T-slots, a longitudinal travel of 220 mm, and across of 160 mm. Each table axis has a ruler attached and its travel locked by a pair of powerful clamps with adjustable handles The head has a total travel on its the supporting column of 210 mm - again with a ruler fitted. Hembrug lathes are beautifully made, being built by Dutch National Armaments Group. This lathe was the Company's venture into the early NC lathe market and based on their well-received manual lathe. The whole machine is an extremely robust cast iron structure with hardened ways. Spindle nose D1-4 No. 5 Morse taper, tailstock 3 Morse, turning diameter over the bed is about 250 mm, 130 mm over cross slide and about 600 mm between centres. Main leadscrew 25 mm diameter with a planetary unit with a pitch of 1 mm. Cross-slide screw 12 mm diameter and 1 mm pitch running on a low-friction linear ball bearing system. Ample room for all the electrics and other components as can be seen in the photos. A fork truck is available to assist with loading . SOLD: a very interesting, vintage-era, James Spencer "front-way" lathe 4" x 15" backgeared, screwcutting and in full working order. This example of a Spencer is almost certainly the best equipped and well-set up one ever found with accessories including: what could well be the maker's original overhead fast-and-loose countershaft with instant stop-start control, two 3-jaw chucks, two 4-jaw chucks, faceplate with watch-lathe type clamps, standard radially-slotted faceplate, swivelling T-slotted boring table to go in place of the top slide, two tailstock, one with a capstan-handle drive, tailstock-mounted 6-station indexing capstan head, thread-dial indicator, hand T-rest, several toolposts, tailstock chuck, a set of screwcutting changewheels and a quantity of turning and boring tools. The lathe, owned by one family from the early 1900s, has been retro-fitted with large micrometer dials on the cross and top slides. The bench-mounted assembly is also available if required. SOLD: Toyo ML1 miniature precision lathe 50 mm centre height and admitting 250 mm between centres. Rear-mounted single phase motor with neat, built-in switch-gear that drives the spindle directly or via a speed-reducing intermediate pulley giving speeds of 250, 1000, 2000 and 3000 r.p.m. The hardened and ground spindle runs in precision ball races and is bored through to clear 12mm. Rigid and well supported, the carriage is guided by both the front, back and top and bottom faces of the bed - a rare arrangement seen only on very few lathes. Fitted with a D1-3" CamLock spindle nose instead of a thread, dual inch/metric micrometer dials on the cross and top-slide feeds and a 3-jaw chuck. SOLD: Alba 2S Shaper. 14-inch stroke. A heavy, industrial-class machine. Complete with the proper swivelling and tilting 7.5-inch (190 mm) holding capacity machine vice. Ram stroke 14" (356 mm) with 4 rates of feed giving strokes per minute of: 18, 30 57 and 109. The table top surface 14" x 10" (355 x 254 mm); longitudinal traverse 18.25" (463 mm); 4 rates of cross-feed that ranging, per cut, from 0.0104" to 0.0417" (0.26 to 1.06 mm). Able to be swivelled through 90° each side of upright, the tool slide has 4.25" (108 mm) of travel and takes cutters up to 11/16" x 11/4" (17.5 mm x 32 mm). SOLD: Plastic Injection Moulding Machine - bench mounting. Hydraulically operated from a commercial single-phase, 240 volt (Savery Ltd) power-pack, 3/4 h.p. 55 bar working pressure. The 600-Watt heaters are regulated by an adjustable temperature controller and monitored by a built-in barrel thermocouple. The pellets can be fed from a simple automatic hopper feed for shot weights up to 10 gm or manually via a feed tube for heavier mouldings when the front tie rods are used to support the additional ram forces. (see pictures). The ram is 28 mm diameter with a stroke of 50 mm that allows the flow of pellets into the heating chamber. Throat depth in the work area is 115 mm, maximum mould height is 110 mm above the platen - which measures 230 mm wide X 190 mm deep. The whole unit can be powered from the domestic mains using about 6 amps. The complete unit is mounted on a fully castor based frame for easy manoeuvring and weighs about 150 kg. Measuring 70 cm wide by 80 cm long and 94 cm to bench top with an overall height of 183 cm. The whole unit can easily be stripped down to small components for transport. A clear polycarbonate safety shield has been removed to show the features more clearly also included is a photo of components recently moulded in HDPE at 200 degree C. A new PAT certificate for the power pack and heater system is included. All the hydraulic pipes and control valves are new and to the latest specifications. SOLD: a rare and very useful "open-sided" planer made in Germany by the Heinemann Company circa 1885-1900 and sold in the UK as a Selig Sonnenthal. Like all small planers this has the ability to form a flat surface on large workpieces with low-cost tooling. Originally hand-operated, the planer has been sympathetically motorised, with a countershaft bolted to its rear and is in otherwise original condition (including what is left of the maker's paint finish). The machine incorporates a number of very ingenious and patented mechanical devices including parts of the remarkable table drive mechanism, these being stamped M.Hass Patent* - an important part of the machine and one that drew comments in the English Mechanic & World of Science Magazine of 1887 where it was described as the: Eureka (Hass' patent). In response to a reader's enquiry the reply stated:  61211  Planing Machine.  You can't make your planer like the so-called Eureka (Haas' patent) because the clutches are, firstly, patented and, secondly, difficult to make).

Mounted on a robust metal stand running on industrial locking castors and fitted with a full-length splashback. Unused for 20 years but carefully stored. SOLD: a very rare 6 mm Lorch watchmakers lathe in its original nickel-plate finish and complete with the special maker's wall cabinet (43 x 35 x 15.5 cm) with lock and key - it appears to be a version of the "Triumph" Combination V1 as shown in older Lorch catalogues. This is the standard type of Lorch watchmaker's lathe called a "right-hand" the headstocks being in the usual place on the left and not , as more usual in Germany formerly, on the right. SOLD: "Myford ML7RB 3.5" x 19" gap-bed, backgeared and fitted with a quick-change screwcutting gearbox, spindle clutch and the correct 3/4 h.p. single-phase motor. The ML7R was the result of Myford rationalising of production around just one design of bed, headstock and tailstock and was a Super 7 but with the ML7 cross and top slide unit - though this example has the longer of the two slides for that model and zeroing micrometer dials.
