SOLD: an unused Cowells 90CW lathe complete with a number of expensive accessories including the maker's Powered Auxiliary Milling and pinion-cutting Attachment. Designed for watch and clock-making purposes the 90CW has a centre height of 1.75" and takes 8" between centres. Driven by a UK-made Parvalux thyristor-controlled motor the hardened spindle and opposed-cone bronze bearings allow revolutions of up to 4000 per minute. Both headstock and tailstock (the latter lever-driven for sensitive feeds) accept standard 8 mm horological collets of which 8 new ones are included. Also included are the following genuine maker's accessories: dividing and indexing attachment with a set of 5 dividing plates, headstock indexing and division detent mechanism, milling slide, spindle-nose collet holder and 8 collets (in addition to the horological set), machine vice, 3-jaw chuck, 4-jaw chuck (both with the mounting adaptor to fit the special 90CW spindle nose), a complete Jacot tool, faceplate, fixed steady, travelling steady, quick-set toolpost, 4-way toolpost, set of screwcutting changewheels, saw arbor and a number of slitting saws, tailstock rotating centre, tailstock chuck, angle plate, Morse taper tailstock drill pad, hand crank for spindle, a set of new turning tools, long T-slotted cross slide, , etc.  Offered at £4950 (the current list price for the 90CW with attachments, collets and chucks, etc. as illustrated is around £6800 with VAT.

SOLD: Tom Senior E-Type milling machine with just two careful, private owners from new. Mounted on the maker's cabinet stand and fitted with the optional slow-speed 1-phase motor. Fitted with the S-Type No. 2 Morse taper swivelling head with both fine and quick-action feeds - importantly, both along the spindle axis. Fitted with a screwcutting gearbox that gives both inch ( 8 to 56 t.p.i.) and metric (0.5 to 3 mm) pitches and equipped with an extra slow longitudinal feed separate from the screwcutting drive. Roller-bearing headstock (bore 20 mm) with spindle speeds from 100 to 1800 r.p.m. Mounted on an excellent metal-framed stand with drawers and storage cupboards. SOLD: SIP MP-1H (Société Genevoise d'Instruments de Physique Switzerland). This is the smallest of the conventional SIP high-precision jig borers and intended for smaller work of the most accurate kind. Equipped with a Sony 2-axis digital readout with calibrations down to 0.001 mm - the original optical measuring system is still in place and works perfectly with all bulbs and scales intact. When new the makers guaranteed an "accuracy displacement" of 0.00008" (0.002 mm) - though the fine-feed handwheel is able to increment consistently, and with great sensitivity, to within 0.001 mm. The machine has a single column with a 16" x 10" (400 x 250 mm) table with a working range of 8" (200 mm) longitudinally and 8" (200 mm) across. The table is carried on ways relieved by spring-loaded rollers, thus ensuring both a particularly smooth motion and an accurate, stick-free repetition of settings.  Included with the jib borer is the original maker's tooling set in a fitted wooden box and an 8.625" (220 mm) SIP Rotoptic-1 Optical Circular Dividing Table with angular settings down to 1 second of arc. SOLD: Holbrook Model C No. 10 Toolroom Lathe 5" x 20" with full screwcutting gearbox, power sliding and surfacing feeds, taper-turning unit and a drive system giving 12 speeds from a very slow 35 to an unusually high 3000 r.p.m. Well equipped with the rare ball and radius turning attachment, 3-jaw chuck, 4-jaw chuck, quick-set toolpost, micrometer-adjustable carriage stop, coolant equipment, tailstock chuck and light unit. SOLD: an unusual Potts-like milling and dividing attachment designed to fit a small lathe. Consisting of a vertical column with, on one side a machine vice and on the other a swivelling spindle with a threaded nose to which can be mounted an indexing plate. SOLD: a superb EXE lathe type "Super" 33/8"  x 18" circa 1929-1935 period. Mounted on the maker's treadle stand that has been carefully adapted to include a motorised drive from a ¼ HP Hoover industrial motor with push-button starter (the treadle drive can still be used of course). Drive system has 6 speeds all by V-belt. Fitted with micrometer dials on the cross-slide, leadscrew and tailstock barrel. Well equipped with: T-slotted cross slide, vertical milling slide, quick-set toolpost, rear toolpost, set of screwcutting changewheels, large and small faceplates, 4-jaw self-centring chuck, 4-jaw independent chuck, home made fixed steady, rotating tailstock centre, ¼" and 3/8" capacity drill chucks and a light unit. SOLD: Arundel K450 long-bed wood lathe. British made and mounted on a substantial, purpose-built bench and fitted with bowl turning (the headstock slides to the tailstock end of the bed). Swing over bed 9", Swing over bench 18", between centres 37". Spindle speeds: 500, 850, 1350 and 2150 r.p.m. driven by a Poly-V belt from a 1-phase 0.5 h.p. motor. Included with the lathe is a Craft Precision Combination chuck with extra collets and 15 good-quality 15 turning tools. Complete with tilting S-Type vertical head with a No. 2 Morse taper quill and both fine and quick-action drilling feeds. Fitted with electronic variable-speed drive on the table's on longitude feed. Clarkson Autolock milling chuck, with 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" collets, a drill chuck, comprehensive table clamping kit, a good 4-inch machine vice, twin light units and manuals. SOLD: Centec 2A Universal vertical & Horizontal Milling Machine with swing table (left and right through 45° from central) and mounted on the maker's underdrive industrial stand with large chip tray. Complete with: 3-inch raiser block to lift the vertical head (the head can be left in place when converted to horizontal mode), upgraded to the later 5/8" table feed screws, Mk. 3 swivelling vertical head with worm-and-wheel fine feed and rack-and-pinion rapid drill feed, full horizontal equipment consisting of the overarm, drop bracket and cutter arbor. Two collets chucks with drawbars: one a Clarkson Type C Autolock collet with a set of  imperial collets the other a modern Vertex ER25 with a full set of metric collets with key; 4-inch swivel-base machine vice and various T-nuts, magnetic base with DTI, small drill chuck on a No. 2 Morse taper, end mills slot drills, a slitting cutter, a can of EP3 grease and a grease gun. This Centec is in excellent working order and maintained to a high standard with the backlash on all 3 axes DTI clocked as follows:-

Longitudinal (x axis) 0.002in.   Cross (y axis) 0.002in.   Vertical (z axis) 0.003in.
The miller has been completely rewired, fitted with a UK-made AES 1-phase, 1 h.p. motor and tested to PAT Class 1 Electrical Appliance and the machine rpm checked with a Smith's machine r.p.m. gauge at 1500 r.p.m. Shipping available via Palletline

This is an unusually well-specified Jubilee complete with the rarely-found rack-and-pinion driven carriage and cross-slide assembly that allows both precision wood turning and light metal working to be undertaken; two tailstocks, one screw-feed the other lever operated; bowl-turning attachment; inboard and outboard faceplates; short T-rest; long T-rest and a special curved bowl-turning rest. Mounted on the maker's cabinet stand with chip tray. R8 taper spindle takes inexpensive tooling - as used on a Bridgeport, Single phase, 1-h.p. motor with push-button control and a reversing switch. 6 speeds from 95 to 1600 r.p.m. Table 240 x 820mm table with longitudinal feed of 530 mm, and in traverse of 200 mm. The head has a total of 470 mm up and down travel (power driven) and a quill travel of 120 mm. SOLD: BOLEY F1 8 mm watchmakers' lathe. This is the complete, boxed set in a very nice condition - on a scale 1 to 10, this one must be a 9. The lathe's bed and other sliding surfaces are in superb condition and many of the accessories are unused. The machine was originally sold by the Swedish importer Schuchardt & Schütte in Stockholm. SOLD: Arboga U2508 Vertical Milling & Co-ordinated drilling machine with a No. 3 Morse taper spindle and mounted on the maker's floor stand. Built 1974 and installed in a school workshop where it has remained for the last 20 years well greased up but unused. This miller is in fine original condition (even to the factory paint), has had only the lightest of use, runs very sweetly and can be inspected under power. This is the heavier, more robust machine introduced during the 1970s. Maximum table to spindle nose distance 20"; quill travel 5.5" with both a handle-driven fine feed and a quick action lever-operated drill feed. Table 22" x 10" with 6.5" of cross travel and longitudinal travel 15.5". Table 650 mm x 190 mm with a longitudinal travel of 485 mm and in traverse of 185 mm. SOLD: Myford ML7BC lathe 3.5" x 20" gap-bed, backgeared with a screwcutting gearbox, spindle clutch and mounted on the maker's cabinet stand with levelling blocks and a deep chip tray. A late-model machine with just 2 owners from new. The lathe had a £430 service from ex-Myford fitter 18 months ago and has done less than 5 hours since - the carriage moves along the bed smoothly with no tight spots. New motor and no-volt safety-release reversing switch fitted after the service. Lathe is in its original paint - only the cabinet has been re painted. To aid usability a vernier micrometer dial has been fitted to the carriage-traverse handwheel and new zeroing micrometer dials on the cross and top slides.

Swiss built, this remarkable machine is capable of being used as a (110 mm centre height by 425 mm between centres) backgeared and screwcutting centre lathe, facing lathe, horizontal miller, vertical miller, drill, horizontal borer, surface grinder and a slotter. In short: this is what a Unimat wants to be when it grows up! SOLD: South Boxford 125 Training Computer Lathe and a Boxford 260 Vertical Machining Centre.
Both require new speed controllers as the Gemini systems have failed - I guess that an update to Mach 3 CNC would be the way forward. Prior  to this both machines had worked fine, both manually and under computer control with the original BBC control system - which I still have and which is included.
125 TCL Lathe: this has an auto turret tool changer, a pneumatic chuck, a standard chuck and some tooling.

SOLD: 'Husky' Horizontal milling machine.   This is a compact but heavily-built horizontal milling machine constructed to a high standard in Taiwan  (Not China) in 1981. Features included all-geared speeds, centralised lubrication system and a 2-axis Sony DRO system with a separate Z-axis read-out.

I bought this miller new and since then it has had only very light use in my model engineering workshop.  This is a reluctant sale as old age and decrepitude prevent me from using my workshop.  The specifications are as follows:

Gearbox Head providing six speeds between 59 - 800 RPM. Speed selected using two levers.   An unmarked table 6" x 24" with a longitudinal travel of 14", across travel 8" with 12" vertically (fitted to the table is a very useful 'Limitless vice'). Spindle takes the common (Bridgeport-type) R8 taper (this is unusual in a horizontal machine, allowing the use of readily-available and inexpensive accessories.) A large selection of arbors, accessories and cutters, as illustrated., is also included meaning that the machine is ready for immediate use.

The whole machine is in very good condition having had little in the past 25 years. A little grubby but undamaged and with an un-worn bed. Included is a proper Clarkson  Autolock collet chuck.
