Resident in the United States, this tiny shaper has an overall length of around 14 inches and, judging by the use of flat-belt drive, must date from before 1930. It appears to be of a heavy and professional build, though there is a chance that it might have been offered as a kit of casting from completion at home. Unfortunately the table power feed mechanism is missing, and how this was arranged is not known> In America, a similar though larger shaper was offered by Lewis and another by Jones, but both these were of later manufacture and used V-belt drive. In England, the Perfecto Company offered their shaper as a kit of parts (or also complete and ready to run) as did E.W.Cowell. Even today, a similar kit is available with this delightful miniature example by Martin Model in the USA. Other small hand-operated shapers available during the 20th century have included the Adept, Alexander, Arrow, Benson, Boynton, Bradley, Drummond, Flexispeeed, Graves, Liverpool Castings & Tool Supply, Omerod, Perfecto, George-Adams/Pitter, Polygon, Portass, Rapid-Lime, Robblak, and Tom Senior..
