25-inch Bradford. This was very much more heavily constructed machine than the 21 inch and had a substantially deeper and heavier bed (mounted on two massive cast-iron box-section cabinets) which weighed 25% more per foot of length than the smaller lathe. The No. 4 Morse taper tailstock was fitted with a rack drive and two clamping plates. This particular example is fitted with the Friction Backgear assembly, which not only allowed instantaneous changes to be made between the low and high speed ranges, but provided a neutral position in the middle which stopped the spindle rotating. This accessory was available on all Bradford lathes up to and including the 25-inch.
