Sheraton 41/2" Lathe Photographic Essay

Manufactured  in Australia from the 1950s until the 1970s, the Sheraton Cub, Cadet, Diploma and Defiance were straight mechanical copies of the later-model American LeBlond "Regal" lathes - a well-proven and highly-popular model that had its origins in the early 1930s. By the 1950s the design had been steadily refined and all versions of the lathe - except perhaps the trouble-prone "Servo Shift", proved to be popular sellers. The Australian versions were also improved, with one important change being to the spindle assembly, this being fitted with either a Cam-Lock or  A1-6 nose and a much beefier shaft that, on the Diploma, had a useful bore of over 2 inches.
