The bar-bed mounted carriage worked with a smooth action with chips easily cleared from the bed rails. The fitting of proper ball-ended balanced handwheels was a pleasing touch.

The cross slide was unusually narrow but very deep - however, it lacked the T-slots that would have transformed its  usefulness. The top slide was very strongly built with a very thick cross section well able to resist the tendency of amateurs (and some professionals) to over-tighten the toolpost clamping nut.

Top slide swivel graduations: a riveted and glued plate -simple, cheap and effective - but neither aesthetically pleasing nor likely to be durable.
