The much improved carriage of the Raglan 5-inch. This particular lathe is fitted with the optional and very desirable long cross slide with a -slotted section at the rear. Feed were selected by the curved quadrant lever, engaged by the outward-pointing horizontal snap-up lever and instantly disengaged by the downward-pointing acorn-tipped lever - or by the knock-off button on the apron's left-hand face.

Note the number of cross-slide gib-strip screws - ensuring that the slide is both well supported and capable of fine adjustment

Because of the way the top slide was mounted on an integral post the full-length cross slide was restricted to just two T-slots at the rear
