Artisan Lathe Mk. 3
- the "improved" Rocky Mountain Bench Model -
Artisan Home Page   Artisan Mk. 2   Artisan Continued

Fitted with an entirely different bed with feet at each end and of much reduced depth (though machined with the same saddle ways), the Rocky Mountain version of the Artisan carried, on its front face (hidden behind the gearbox), the cast-in word "Bench". The original drive system was discarded and replaced by a neat, all-V-belt swing-head countershaft mounted on the rear section of an extended-length headstock-end bed foot. Although the rest of the lathe appears to have been left largely unchanged, in order to increase the travel of the cross-slide, a "distance piece" (in bronze) was bolted to the front of the (all-new) casting to carry its feed screw and micrometer dial..
