Designed to socket into the foot used to support the bed of the 8 mm watchmakers' lathe, the solid steel, precision ground 51 mm diameter column of the IME drill was designed to make the conversion from one set-up to the next as simple as possible. Once arranged as a drill, the drive came from the existing motor and countershaft unit used for the lathe. Made from nickel chromium steel, the spindle was hardened and ground, ran in hardened steel bearings protected by dust covers (with enclosed felt wipers) with the 8 mm collet fitting identical to that used on the lathe. As standard a simple screw depth stop was supplied, but as an option a micrometer stop was available graduated in 0.01 mm units. The unit was beautifully finished with steel components either polished or nickel plated. The overall height = 254 mm Centre of table to column = 41 mm Spindle nose to table = 46 mm Movement of spindle = 20 mm Diameter of table = 51 mm Weight without case = 2.4 g Weight with case = 3.8 kg
