Founded in 1947, the Company of Nicolas Nicolás S.A. is now one of Europe's leading manufacturers of CNC bed type, travelling column, bridge type moving column and gantry milling machines. Based originally in the industrial town of Eibar in the Southern Basque region of northern Spain, the Company's headquarters are now in a state-of-the-art factory in Burgos, a town with important trade and tourist activity and with a sizeable manufacturing base.
From the Company's first base - on the second floor of a building in Eibar - a decision was made to concentrate on the manufacture of milling machines. Early efforts involved a close association with the Swiss firm of Oerlikon, whose machines were made under licence for several years. In decades, with the advent of Numerical Computer control, an licence agreement was made with the French Company Forest S.A. of France to manufacture machining centres.
The milling machines shown below are typical of the Company's range from the 1970s into the 1980s, being a mixture of conventional and NC types.
