To date, the only shapers branded as "Torpex" have been found in Australia, one carrying a heavy badge in bronze proclaiming "Machinery Merchants Engineering Supply Co. of Australia Ltd. Brisbane and Townsville" The name Torpex is in parentheses, perhaps hinting at a branding system used by a Swedish Company for export markets. However, as none of the known makers of shapers in Sweden made one of a similar design, the question remains open. One example, in green below, has a 24-inch stroke; the other, covered in grease for outdoor storage, is an 18-inch model. As shapers from the 1930s into the late 1950s all look somewhat similar, dating the machines is difficult; the only clue is the English Brook motor, which might carry a date of 1936.
