Shown on this page, here and also here, is a selection of machines from a Swiss collector. Beautifully presented - though perhaps over-polished - they represent the Swiss Universal as produced from the early to mid 1800s.


Another example of this lathe has been found in  the USA branded as the ROB, with the
letters pierced by an arrow travelling from right to left--see below


Probably an even earlier model with a separate steel-bar bed and the spindle driven not by gearing but a far less effective rope and pulley system.
