Sparkbrook Motorcycles - Page 2

Sparkbook Motorcycles Page 1

Below, photographed in 2016 after six years in storage, is a Sparkbrook Model A from 1922 equipped with a Villiers Mk. 4A two-stroke engine with the Type Prefix "C".
Retaining its original registration number and with frame No. 1995S, this was the last example to be fitted with the Mk.4A engine, the next having the slightly altered Mk. 5. Instead of the usual touring sit-up-and-beg handlebars found on most Sparkbrooks of this type, the first owner specified the lower type listed as an option by the makers and called by them  the "Semi-TT".
Largely original, as displayed the bike has the wrong front mudguard (it should have a deep valance) is fitted with a slightly later Villiers carburettor and a home-made rear stand.
Although of a complete 1922 specification, and with the correct engine and frame numbers, the bike was not registered until 1925. Could it have languished unsold in a dealer's back room - or been exported and then returned home?  We shall never know.
