SEE (FSB) Lathes -1950s

SEE/FSB Lathes Home Page

An obvious continuation of earlier SEE (FSB) designs, this variable-speed model from the 1950s used an expanding-and-contracting pulley system within the headstock end of the cabinet stand to transfer the drive upwards via two V-belts to the headstock spindle. The drive was very well engineered with a powerful, large-frame motor and, instead of the expected link belt to adjust the tension of the spindle bells, a jockey-pulley arrangement. While the drive system and arrangement of the backgeared headstock followed earlier SEE/FSB designs the screwcutting and feeds gearbox was all new, as was the proper and full apron  that provided powered sliding sand surfacing feeds (from a separate power shaft) with the availability of pre-set throw-out stops for both directions of travel..
