Kao Fong KF-H1 Milling Machine

Based at 16 Keya Road, Taya in the town of Taichung in Taiwan, the  Kao Fong Company is a long established manufacturer of milling and other machine tools. Although exported world-wide, few of their basic models reached the UK, though one that did was the conventional KF-H1, a horizontal miller with a 230 x 1000 mm table. Relatively few technical details are available, but with neat control by push-button on the right-hand face of the knee, the table had 600 mm of longitudinal travel, 230 mm across and 385 vertically. Power feed, from a separate 0.5 h.p. motor, was fitted only to the longitudinal drive (though power cross feed might have been an option) this being at the rate of 18 to 320 mm/min. Rapids were a part of the standard specification at the rate of 2020 mm/min.
Rated at 2 h.p., the main motor provided 6 speeds to the No.40 INT horizontal spindle.
Stored at the left-hand side of the main column was a vertical head - this also having a No.40 INT spindle nose - carried on a permanently-fitted, swing-out overarm that allowed it to be installed as and when needed.
A centralised lubrication system was fitted - operated by a plunger on the left-hand face of the knee - as was a complete coolant system (driven by its own 1/8 h.p. motor) and a low-voltage light unit.
The miller stood about 69 inches height and weighed approximately 2200 lbs.
