Capco Surface Grinder Rebuild

The restorer writes:
After three months (approximately 350 hours) of effort and the expenditure of £2400 (I kid you not) the machine below was finally complete on December 24th 2015. One addition yet to be fitted is a micro feed to the "Z" axis by employing a 120t gear with a worm drive (detachable on a swinging arm) attached to the "Z" drive shaft. It proved impossible to find either a serial number or machine name (or type) anywhere on the grinder but the main dimensions are: overall height 50 inches; depth (including handles) 35 inches; width of base including feet 20 inches; depth of base 21.5 inches; height of base unit 22 inches; height of column 27 inches; table length 25 inches; table width 6.5 inches (with 3 9/16" slots); saddle slideway 19 inches; saddle is moved by 3/4 inch 10 t.p.i right-handed acme threaded screw that passes through a 2 inch long (1 inch diameter) bronze nut held in the knee casting. X,Y and Z travel are respectively (and approximately) 18 inches minimum,  Y 7 inches minimum and Z 7.5 inches (with an 8" grit wheel fitted). The table action is by rack-and-pinion gearing with the pinion entering the rack at 30°. The micrometer dials for Y and Z travel are marked  in 0.0005" increments.
The spindle, double-ended and 20 inches long, is drilled for a Tommy bar to undo the retaining nuts. This particular machine was fitted, originally, with plain spindle bearings but, someone having butchered them, these were changed to four angular ball bearing races, two being fitted at each end. An advantage of the conversion has been an increase in the safe spindle speed from 2000 to 2500 and 3200 r.p.m. by means of a 2-step drive pulley. The grinding wheels used are a 1" 1/4" bore to suit (with sleeve adapters) the  25 mm spindle.
Drive comes from a 3-phase 400/440v 3-h.p. motor running at 2850 r.p.m. controlled by a MEM switch with a 400v solenoid, Total weight of machine is approximately 700 lbs (318 kilos) and nearly all the fastenings are either 1/4" or 5/16" Whitworth..
