Two No. 3 Morse taper vertical milling attachments were available for the horizontal Victoria M1 series millers: the Standard and the Universal. The body of both attachments located on the V ways at the front of the main column and the swivelling head was held in turn on a deep spigot by four bolts. A horizontal shaft, which ran on twin taper roller bearings, transmitted the drive through spur gears from the main spindle - and then by spiral bevel gears up to the vertical spindle which ran in tapered phosphor-bronze bushes, adjustable for wear. Because the drive was not taken directly from the line of the horizontal spindle - but "stepped up" - there was a useful increase in clearance beneath the head. The clearance between the face of the column and the centre line of the spindle was 9.5" and the distance between the table top and the nose 12.52 in the case of the Universal attachment - and 14" in the case of the ordinary. The head had six speeds from 60 to 1000 rpm and weighed 100 lbs. The "Universal" head incorporated a second swivelling action and was designed to allow the machine to undertake a much greater variety of work.

The Universal Diving head was available in two centre heights - 3.5" and 4.75" - and was supplied as standard with the Universal M1 Miller. Power was taken from a gear fixed to the end of the table feed screw. The heads were built to Schlesinger's limits and tested to 5 seconds of arc.
