Riken Lathes - Later Models
Riken Home Page   Riken Page 2

Very similar in general execution to the Schaublin 70, this later Riken uses an entirely different way of locating fittings on its bed. In place of the central slot (with one 90-degree and one angled side) a flat-topped, bevelled-edged bed was used with an ordinate T-slot down the centre line that allowed fittings to be secured across the bed's full width. However, even later models (shown further down the page) reverted to the original design.

Though to be one of the last in a long series of bench precision lathes made by Riken, this model was almost a direct copy of the Schaublin 70 as shown towards the bottom of this page. Even the heavy metal stand was given a typically Schaublin swing-open drawer. The headstock drive was particularly rugged with jockey pulleys employed to ensure that the belt had the maximum possible wrap-around and the ability to be properly tensioned.
Interestingly, the Company had, by this stage, reverted to the original method locating items on the bed using the front edge and a single central slot with one 90-degree and one angled side.
