The full title of this lathe was the "Rivett Manufacturers' Lathe No. 5.
Based on the No. 4 machine but of a heavier  build it was designed as a very robust, accurate machine for use by commercial machinists in an environment where the very fine quality of a Rivett Precision lathe would have been wasted.
