The Story of Wilhelm von Pittler

The following castings are available to order: Please contact:  andrew@lamech.demon.co.uk

4" diameter curved spoke pulley to suit all B2 overhead carriages.

The B2 cruciform overhead carriage frame to the final design, and accepting the retaining hook, as detailed by George Gentry in the M.E. p.110, February 6th 1941, continued from his description of the earlier type, p79 January 23rd 1941. This works as per the earlier type, but cannot fall from the cross rail and get busted as per the earlier type.

5" diameter cast feet for bench mounting of overhead standards (non original) in a style similar to the feet found on W.W. spec. lathes.

The compound adjustable bracket (2 reqd.) connecting the B2 overhead rail to the standard columns, as detailed in the M.E. fig. 21, p.78 January 23rd 1941. It is worth noting that if these castings are machined as per the article, virtually all surfaces are skimmed, and it may be preferable for some to work "from the solid" instead.

Plain drilling spindle body casting (B2)

Universal milling head body casting (B2)

Universal cutting frame (B2) patterns to be completed, 2 off.

B2 saddle ring

Bracket to carry B2 powered spherical turning mechanism for attachment to above. It must be noted that these two items are to be used together; the saddle ring has extra material for the additional facings to accomodate it; and that the prototype was from a C3 model. The C3 version is thought to have been superior as it "knocks off" automatically at a predetermined point around the radius it describes, whereas contemporary prints of the B2 attachment would suggest it stops when the operator stops treadling. A splined, extending drive shaft, and a right angled bracket with two mitre gears for attachment to the mitre gearbox are required to complete the accessory.

Additionally, "drawing up" of parts is ongoing, though two items may prove of interest, namely the double geared pittler B2 cutter frame, and an Atkinson's reciprocator designed by Theo Faberge for ornamental freaks like me! I think he would appreciate his name being kept off the internet until I can discuss this with him, though. Neither of the above require castings.
