Two view of the assembly floor, one taken from each end. Ranged down each side of the shop were four or five transverse cranes, running in rail tracks, used to lift complete machines and sub-assemblies. Although all the lathes visible are self-contained models with integral drive systems the factory itself continued to use a number of flat-belt driven machine tools - as evidenced by the overhead line-shafting visible along the far wall in the top picture.
