With the tool slide swivelled, the correct angle could be obtained for the side relief of angular cutters.

Specially manufactured form cutters could be manufactured "in house" - if rather slowly, depending upon the width of cut being taken.

When inside relieving thread dies, or hollow milling cutters, it was recommended that the eccentric which controlled the travel of the tool slide was set so that the relieving was done away from - rather than towards - the axis of the cutter. The change was made at the toothed coupling of the cam lever and oscillating shaft - the latter being rolled clockwise beyond the zero mark as much as possible to get the right amount of travel in the tool slide.
For internal work it was also necessary to change the position of the opposing spring (under the cover on the front of the tool slide) so that it would press against the end of the slide and prevent the cutting tool from jumping out.
