4-way Toolpost. This unit was very well made from hardened materials and designed for heavy-duty use - the unit could only be rotated to four positions, each securely located by a tongue machined in the top slide casting.

Open-sided Tool Holder. This toolholder was built up from a hardened steel plate with a corrugated face and rocking shoe at one side (this is not clear in the picture). On top of the steel plate was a loosely-mounted cast-iron head by which means the unit was clamped to the top slide, and the cutting tool retained in place.

Plain Slide Rest. A simple, strong rest used for heavy-duty turning where the flexibility inherent in a compound rest was better avoided.

Supplied as standard equipment, the general-purpose compound slide rest was used for the majority of day-to-day centre-lathe work.

Special Compound Rest with heavy-duty tool post. Sometimes known as the "English" toolpost, this was unit was designed for extra-heavy duty work.
