The oil-splash lubricated screwcutting and feeds gearbox was controlled by three smooth levers - that could be awkward to operate with oily hands - and a single rotary selector. Without changing or rearranging any of the end gears (changewheels) 54 metric pitches from 0.2 to 14 mm pitch, 51 English threads from 2 to 84 tpi, 18 Module pitches from 0.2 to 3.5 MOD and 27 Diametral from 8 to 72 DP. The feed to the leadscrew (but not the powershaft) incorporated a torque-limiting mechanism and power feeds ranged from 0.04 to 2.84 mm per revolution of the headstock spindle (0.0016" to 0.112") with power cross feed set to be one half of the longitudinal rate.
The double-wall, oil-sump apron was of a completely new design and fitted with twin-bevel gears, which incorporated dog clutches, to power the sliding and surfacing feeds; this feature enabled the operator to instantly reverse either without having to stop the headstock spindle. On the left can be seen the gated spindle-control lever which provided electrical stop/start and forward/reverse functions.
6-position longitudinal, automatic stop. Not as clever or as effective as the multi-position stops found on many lathes of the early 1900s, where the cut could be resumed from one stop position to the next along the length of the bed, but a handy feature nonetheless.
