EMU-200 Lathe - Hungary
Little known outside its native country the EMU-200 was a neatly designed lathe typical of 1950s thinking. With a centre height of 100mm, a capacity between centres of 350mm and an infinitely variable speed range from 90 to 3125 r.p.m it was built to provide a versatile machine equally at home in a small repair shop, industrial training establishment or as a precision machine for development work.
With a useful through bore of 25 mm the headstock spindle ran in taper roller races and carried a No. 4 Morse taper centre.
Power sliding and surfacing from a separate power shaft was fitted as standard with third-rod control of the spindle stop, start and reverse operated by a lever on the right-hand face of the apron. The screwcutting gearbox was devoid of tumblers and hence, with its all-dial control, properly sealed against the ingress of dirt and chips.
If you have an EMU lathe the writer would be interested to hear details.
