Delta Metal-Turning Lathes

As late as the 1960s the Rockwell Delta 11" x 36" wood lathe still remained true to its origins of simplicity and strength - but with pleasingly modern touches evident in both the shape of the castings and the provision of properly designed and easy-to-operate handles.
The lathe could be supplied for bench mounting, or on a stand fitted for either 4 or 16-speed drive. The simple, overhung-pulley headstock carried a No. 2 Morse taper spindle running on lubricated-for-life ball bearings; it was threaded 1" x 8 t.p.i right-hand inboard - and  1" x 8 t.p.i left-hand outboard. A very heavy bowl-turning rest to use against the outboard faceplate was listed in the catalog, but not illustrated.
With a shallow gap by the front spindle, the bed had sufficient capacity to turn a bowl 14-inches in diameter by 3-inches deep.
Fitted with a 1725 r.p.m. motor, the 4-speed model had spindle speeds of  990, 1475, 2220 and 3250 rpm - whilst the 16-speed  version ranged from 390 to 3250 r.p.m..

The simple, overhung-pulley headstock design harked back to the original Delta lathes of the 1930s. The No. 2 Morse taper spindle was threaded 1" x 8 t.p.i Right-hand inboard - and  1" x 8 t.p.i left-hand outboard.

Cleanly designed, quick-set T rest

The single piece bed cast-iron  was ribbed beneath the headstock mounting point.

A rather "styled" tailstock, but fitted with excellent handles. The barrel was graduated and carried a No. 2 Morse centre.
